ARPF is looking for Invasive Plant Stewards!

As an official IPMP Steward you are responsible for independently monitoring and controlling the spread of invasive populations in a specific area, usually one close to where you live or where you most often use the Parkway for recreational activities.  IPMP Stewards are able to work according to their own schedules and are not restricted to regular work group times.

An important component of IPMP activities is keeping records of the activities conducted at your site or for the area where you engage in work. For this purpose we ask that you 1) use the “ARPF Plant Steward Volunteer Form” (an online Google doc). The doc is accessible through the ARPF website and 2) regularly update the Google map using a standardized format that is used to communicate current actions and priorities among members. You will be provided a link to access the map.

IPMP Stewards make a commitment to their site for one year. During that year, IPMP members are encouraged to visit their site on a monthly basis to identify and remove the targeted IPMP weed populations. If there is too much work to be done, such as a mass of new seedlings appearing, the Steward should promptly notify the IPMP manager. We will gladly schedule a Roving Team or a monthly work group to augment the work of the Steward in any assigned area.

The Invasive Plant Management Program will support the Stewards with the most recent weed population maps and work group histories. Hand tools are made available for use over extended periods of time and a training/orientation will be provided. Quarterly meetings will be held for participants to connect, and we will introduce participants working in the same area to allow coordination of your efforts. When extra hands are needed ARPF will publicize weeding events and coordinate other group outings.
